Arbiting

This page will be used to keep a record of the various chess events that I have acted as an arbiter for.

I will endeavour to update this page periodically as required, with details of various events I have run to be included here as well (or at least links to the details).

Prior to moving to Melbourne in 2005, I had been an arbiter at a variety of events for the NSWJCL, primarily the various holiday events held throughout the year.

In 2011 I attended a FIDE arbiters seminar at the Box Hill Chess Club & passed the final exam with a raw score of 97%. This gave me a FIDE Arbiter 'norm', and is one of the steps towards the FIDE Arbiter title. The official report for FIDE on this seminar is on the FIDE web page. To be awarded the title, you must pass the seminar exam (80% pass mark), as well as run at least three FIDE rated tournaments.

I was one of the arbiters for the various Chess Victoria School finals in 2011, which included the Secondary Schools final, Secondary Girls final, Primary Girls final, two Primary Schools semi-finals & the Primary Schools final.

I was the chief arbiter for the FIDE-rated MCC Melbourne Cup weekender. This event attracted 43 players & was won by IM George Xie. I also posted daily updates on my blog about the event. These reports can be seen here: Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, Day 4, Day 5. You can also read my final Tournament Report.

In 2012 I have run the regular Monday night FIDE rated events at Melbourne Chess Club & regularly post updates about the rounds on my blog. You can find these by looking in the Blog Archive section on the right hand side of the main blog page.

I was an assistant arbiter at the 2012 Doeberl Cup in Canberra, which is the biggest weekend event in the country.

I was the arbiter for the Victorian Championships & Reserves and produced bulletins for Championship participants during the tournament. I also wrote regular blog posts about both events.

I have also run a number of weekend events in Melbourne, mostly at Melbourne Chess Club.

I have also run a number of schools events, for both Northern Star Chess and ZedChess.

At the recent FIDE Congress, held during the chess Olympiad in Istanbul, I was awarded the title of FIDE Arbiter & now hope to continue to improve the quality of my arbiting, and now have my sights on the International Arbiter title.

My FIDE Arbiter title application can be viewed on the FIDE website.

My FIDE Chess Profile includes both my playing and arbiting history.
